Entrecard Mania

When I signed up for Entrecard I never thought that it would become such an obsession. At first I just dropped off my card as I was visiting blogs l liked. Once I had figured out who had dropped their cards on my blog I started to return the favor. I TRY to return every drop because I truly appreciate it that you all visit my blog. But I have to admit that sometimes it is so time consuming that I have no time left to write new posts or drop on everyone’s blog and that kind of sucks.

Unfortunately I am still on dail-up because broadband is too freaking expensive for me. That means that trying to return all the drops can take hours each day. I’m on the internet longer than I have ever been, yet the amount of posts I write has been dropping. Dropping Entrecards almost feels like a chore now. I am starting to wonder what internet life was before Entrecard. So I’m going to have to find a balance in it. Anyone any tips for me?

I’m on broadband and I find that card dropping feels like a major chore. I can’t imagine it on dial-up. I stopped dropping cards on everyone who drops on me, not because I don’t appreciate their drops, but because it’s a lot of effort for very little gain.

At first it is worth dropping cards on lots of sites but once you’ve been with Entrecard for about a month, you’ll almost certainly be dropping on the same sites over and over. Given the amount of time this takes, there isn’t much point dropping on the same sites multiple times aside from the fact you get credits for doing it.

The way I’ve been doing it is to subscribe to the blogs I like, read them in Google Reader, then if I see a post that interests me, I’ll click through to the site. Then I drop a card. So I usually drop cards when I leave a comment. After all, I’m already visiting the site so I might as well drop my card while I’m there.

I don’t know if you saw it, but I recently interviewed Graham Langdon (Entrecard founder) about the issue of card dropping taking lots of time, amongst other things. You might find his comments interesting. I think it’s fine to drop cards in any way that works for you, but if it’s taking up a lot of time, it might be easier just to drop cards when you’re already visiting a site. Rather than religiously dropping on lots of sites every day.

I am also relatively new using EC, but I have limited myself to around 100 drops a day, and so far things are looking fine to me.

If dropping is a chore…don’t do it. Like Ben said, on Entrecard you’re just dropping your cards and promoting to the same people all the time! Expand you reach. I find that reading and enjoying other blogs and commenting on them is the best way to connect with other bloggers and make them *want* to come to your blog and enjoy it.
